After years of disappointing food at Der W, I never expected to write this review. I stopped in last night - a Saturday - at 8:15, hungry. I was just a mile away with an online coupon for a free bratwurst w/ any purchase and an Oktoberfest hankering for a taste of München.
Well, what a nice surprise! I was shocked by the new innovative menu, which made it hard to choose. Round 1 comprised a standard Chili Dog and a Bratwurst w/ onions. The mystery meat dog still had its odd, "off" flavor, but that was eclipsed by the superb chili, which was plentiful. The Brat, however, was a Bavarian-style epiphany! It was plump, juicy, expertly spiced w/ perfect texture! It brought me back to Germany at first bite! Though not very authentic, the house-chopped onions were good, but the plain old, yellow, American ballpark-style mustard was out of place. I don't expect Süßer Senf, but please, corporate, if you offer premium items, give us SOME sort of brownish mustard!
Round 2: A surprising Chicago Dog was really good. The relish wasn't neon green and the bun wasn't poppy seed-studded, but the hoped-for taste was there. It merits re-ordering. Brat #2 was w/ sauerkraut only - no mundane mustard. It went home for today's lunch w/ spicy Dijon mustard, Currywurst sauce, half-sour Kosher dill spears, & ein Maß Bier. What a great sausage!
Plus, the manager was helpful and the diligent young guy at the counter was enthusiastically sincere in making my visit an excellent experience!
Upshot? Enjoy some of these interesting menu items. Corporate: Continue this Bratwurst year-round, add "real" mustard choices, and, BTW, offer bacon on the Green Chile Chili Cheese Dog to add "Sonoran" flair for us Arizonans! -

Surprise, surprise, surprise.
I was surprised my dog was tasty.
But I am not a hot dog fan unless at a pro sports game - cardinals or suns.
Then, hot dogs go with the adventure, the event.
And, maybe a polish sausage or bratwurst when visiting the Tempe Arts Crafts fair.
But that's about it for hot dogs, especially when you discover what goes into the hot dog meat - yuck.
And kosher is not much better.
Anyway, I was surprised. -

Worst customer service ever. Ordered 2 chili dogs (no cheese because .40 for each hot dog for cheese is a rip off) and fries. Got to the window and sat in front of the window for quite a while. They served the person in back of me. I then demanded my money back. I told them to wait for this amount of time at 1:00 lunch time, was ridiculous. The woman working the counter blamed it on the fries and just shrugged. She should be fired. It was dogs and fries, not specialty sandwiches with salads. It's fast food and at lunch time, what's the matter with you folks.
Don't waste your time here folks. -
